Dancing is a fundamental part of being human.
We know this because there is no part in the world where rhythm is ignored! And how do we know this?
Well, ever tapped your toes to a song you hate - but just can't help doing it?
There's your answer!
Whether we want Pharrell to tell us to be 'Happy' or not, our brain just can't deny a rhythm, as music affects the emotional centres of the brain.
And whether you think you can dance or not, there's no denying that moving to that rhythm makes us happy.
How does it do this? Let me explain...
Physically, dancing is one of the best forms of exercise - and we know that exercise is good for boosting those endorphins - chemicals produced by the body to relieve stress and pain.
Dancing gets you moving muscles that you wouldn't use in your day to day routine, even if you go to the gym, run or cycle - dancing moves the whole body - in exactly the way you want to!
Plus it helps improve your spatial awareness and can be a good form of stretching out the muscles, as well as strengthening them too.
Cognitively, dancing shifts your mind to focus. You can get lost in a good tune, zone out, and forget all your troubles when you're dancing to a song you love.
To put it bluntly, it helps you relax.
Socially, dancing is great fun. It enables you to interact with people, it's a form of communication without words, and it can give you and your friends a great confidence boost.
Plus it's scientifically proven that it helps with social bonding!
Dancing is something that you can enjoy at any point in your life, no matter what your ability, and even dancing as little as three minutes a day has shown to boost your mood, and improve creative thinking patterns.
So, what's not to love?
