There are lots of exciting opportunities for our pupils to perform - at local fairs, competitions and biennial shows. It is an important component of what we offer and as well as being great fun it builds confidence and creates wonderful memories for students and families to share and look back on for years to come.
Parents are also invited to watch their child’s class three times a year (at the end of the Autumn, Spring and Summer term) and there is a short performance at the end of all our holiday workshops and summer schools.
KCDS past performances include Disneyland Paris, The O2, Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Her Majesty's plus Warlingham Fair and many School Fetes, Harvest Festivals and Charity Events.
Our pupils have successfully auditioned and performed with the English Youth Ballet, National Youth Theatre and London Children's Ballet and won roles in The Lion King (both for the UK Tour and in London's West End), School of Rock, Tina the Musical and performed in pantomime at Croydon's Fairfield Halls.
This annual event rounds up our dance season. It is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate individuals who have excelled, gone above and beyond, found success over something difficult, not only proving something to themselves but also inspiring their friends to achieve and succeed.
Each and every one of our pupils excel throughout the year - the entire team at KCDS are always extremely proud of all of our students and this we must celebrate.
Our awards are there to boost morale and improve motivation across the school. Regardless of being a recipient of an award all of our students are winners and this event will celebrate what each and everyone of them has achieved and also inspire them to improve on something next year.
Our KCDS Choreographic Competition is an annual event held in September.
Pupils are encouraged to develop their creative ability by choreographing their own routines and entering the competition. Every student is welcome to enter.
Trophies are awarded.
What a wonderful way to channel creativity and give students a platform to discover the world of choreography.
At KCDS we love getting together outside of the studio too! We really do feel that this is an important part of our dance community, bringing our dance family together.
We regularly organise theatre trips to shows, activities such as Flipout, Oxygen, water sports or picnic park days which gives the students the chance to make unforgettable memories with their dance friends.
Each term we will nominate a chosen charity or fund-raising event and host fun classes to raise money for good causes - these might be Fancy Dress weeks, 'Bring a Buddy' weeks or even 'Dance with Dad' classes.
When possible, students and their families are rewarded for their hard work with a Christmas or Summer party.
KCDS offers additional opportunities and promotes an active "Masterclass" programme with students regularly offered the chance to attend workshops with well-respected dance practitioners and choreographers.
These sessions are an invaluable way of broadening their dance knowledge and learning new and exciting methods to hone and perfect their dance technique.
Recent workshops include Rosina Andrews' Pirouette Surgery® and Rebecca Davies' Radar Technique as well as many visits from West End professionals and renowned choreographers.
For the young students who are showing dedication, enthusiasm and ability, there are opportunities to audition for the various Associate Classes, Pantomimes and Summer Schools.
