TIPS FOR HELPING YOUR CHILD STICK TO DANCE

Because sometimes it's hard even if you love it!

We can all appreciate the challenges we face in juggling our children’s activities and our family commitments, but sticking with things can get a little hard.

No matter how much your child loves dance, there's bound to be a part where they can't be bothered, or get bored of it, and for parents too? Mustering up the energy each week can be draining - especially in those winter months.

So here's my top tips on keeping everyone engaged and keeping your chin up!

  • Organisation is key - check their bag the night before class and make sure you have all uniform items ready to go
  • Encourage responsibility - teach your dancer to check their bag and items also, it helps them grow with their independence
  • Labelling is so useful - label all items of clothing, including shoes, because no one wants to pay twice for uniform items
  • Pack a snack - we all need a pick me up sometimes and if it helps them get through it then go a head and pack it!
  • Get some rest - a well-rested dancer is more focused and able to learn than a tired one, so make sure your dancer is in bed at a reasonable time the night before dance classes
  • Keep up to date with information - I know emails are annoying but it really is the best way for us to communicate with you - so keep on top of them as they come in to make sure you are both prepared for any changes
  • Take your time and do what YOU need to do - is it come armed with a latte? Or plan having one once the kids are dropped off? Remember, you can't look after everyone else if you don't look after yourself first!
  • Give feedback - we wouldn't do what we do well if you didn't tell us why, and we wouldn't be able to correct what we don't do so well if you didn't tell us why - so if you have some thoughts and suggestions on how to boost morale with the kids if they are feeling a little bit disengaged then let us know!
