We all know the physical benefits of dance, but what about the mental benefits? Or should we say academic benefits?
When a child dances and experiences movements like; moving over, under, around, through, beside, and near objects they are learning prepositions.
Children always learn best by "doing" (in fact so do many adults!) so what better way to learn the meaning behind these words than through dance?
Not only this but dance widens our social sphere, improving relationships and connectedness, it promotes team work and collaborative working from a young age - essential skills for the workforce later in life!
Dance is also creative - and we know for a fact that we thrives on creativity, even the least creative os us will find enjoyment in gardening, reading a book, painting a room, writing, or even cooking - it's all creative and creativity boosts productivity making us work better at the task in hand.
There's also been research demonstrating that dance, over other forms of physical activity like walking and running, significantly improves cognitive function in older adults. These studies mentioned improved memory recall, verbal fluency, in addition to better balance, motor coordination and posture.
At KCDS we genuinely believe that investing in dance classes for your child is more than investing in a physical activity, it's an investment in your child’s education, the benefits of which extend well beyond the classroom.
